Post Malone Only Wanna Be With You

Post Malone Covers “Only Wanna Be With You” For Pokémon 25

Post Malone threw it back to 1994 to cover Hootie & The Blowfish’s hit single “Only Wanna Be With You” for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary which officially falls on February 27th, 2021. It was 25 years ago on the 27th when Pokémon Red and Green were released in Japan. This would be the very beginning of what would become one of the most popular video game franchises of all time.

The song is not only a nod to 1994, but also to older Pokémon games. The song samples the theme of Ecruteak and Cianwood City from Pokémon Silver/Gold/Crystal which came out in 1999 for the Gameboy Color. Here’s the original for reference.

On the day of the anniversary Post will perform this song at a virtual concert celebrating the franchises 25th anniversary.

Here’s Hootie & The Blowfish’s original version of Only Wanna Be With You as well.
